Admiralty environmental and marine

The Ritch Durnford maritime transportation practice group has provided top-calibre marine legal services since 1948. We remain an international consultant, advisor and advocate in the practice of marine law.

Our legal services include litigation of admiralty, environmental and marine claims in both provincial and federal court, as well as local and international arbitration and administrative practice. Public and private sector organizations consult with the group on matters relating to policy, international issues and conflict resolution.

Our admiralty and marine group represents cargo interests, shipowners, insurers and various private and government clients. Ritch Durnford marine group members also speak at industry conferences and advise administrative and regulatory agencies.

The firm's location in the busy port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, lets us respond immediately to marine claims. These include an array of insurance, cargo, collision and allision, towage and pilotage and hull repair claims, arising from operations both in the inshore and offshore industry.

The Ritch Durnford admiralty, environmental and marine group advocates and advises in many areas of law, including:

• marine transportation;
• international law of the sea;
• marine pollution and liability regimes;
• marine spill response;
• coastal zone management;
• offshore oil and gas;
• marine insurance;
• charter-party disputes;
• ship sales and financing;
• shipowners' representation;
• pollution liability;
